 Packing a Mirror

The following photos illustrate one way to pack a mirror for shipping. This mirror is 16" in diameter, 3 1/2 thick and weighs about 60 lbs.

Build a crate, place one layer of foam, place mirror on foam.

Add layers of foam with circles cutout.

Two layers of paper towels over the mirror.

One more foam layer.

Wedges of foam to keep it tight.

Cardboard goes over the paper towels. There's a slight air space between the paper towels and the cardboard. The gap persists after the next layers are added.

Two layers of 3/8" plywood go on top of the cardboard. Then we add the mirror cell.

Foam jammed in the corners holds the mirror cell in place so it won't rattle or move.

Add layers of foam to fill the crate even with the top edge. With luck or good planning, our foam came out a perfect fit.

Attach top with 15 screws.

Ready for the truck. Total package weight = 110 lbs.
